Thought to Words
THERE IS NOTHING LIKE an hour before the end of the work day deciding to catch a 15 minute train ride to the nearest beach. Spontaneity being the order of the day.
It had been the warmest day of the year so far and it felt like the sand, sea and sunset were calling us. We called our friends who dropped everything and walked down to meet us at the station. We laughed and joked on the journey as to what we might find and being ravenously hungry, what we might like to order from the fish’n’chip shop.
Stood with boxes of chips on the sea wall, we watched the world go by, noticed the large boats on the horizon, the waves hitting black rocks below us sending the white spray high into the air. Shouts and laughter from holiday-makers, dodgems and the seagulls cruising in the air.
The cares of the day slipped away as the meditative sound of the waves take over
On the sand, we found shells and odd shaped stones with quartz lines running through them. Worn down by the sea, over the centuries and way beyond our own short time we have spent on this earth.
Shoes and socks in hand we paddled, the frothing white line racing in, the shock of the cold sea trickling over our toes and feet, feeling ourselves becoming all the more grounded with each wave. The cares of the day slipped away as the meditative sound of the waves surround us.
I noticed the wavelengths of the sea like sound waves from our meditation sound sessions, ever growing. Gentle lines run crooked and surging, seeking out the path of least resistance. I felt at peace.
Before too long we were heading back to the station, the sun sinking down behind the hills and trees. Rooks returning to their nests as were the holiday-makers.
It’s worth, every now and again, finding a pause point to ground yourself. Be free from all the clutter going on in and around our lives. It’s like a reset.
